crochet flower square

aahh..i do love it when something "clicks". for the longest i have tried to read {and follow} a crochet pattern. i realize now more of the logistics behind the craft. basically, crochet is a series of loops and pulls. going from a single crochet, to a double to a triple adds height to the stitch. also, the amount of times you do a stitch in a single hole gives you ruffles or frills or holes. {{yawn yawn says the old hookers...but these are things that i just did not understand till now..}} so, when a pattern says 3sc - it means to do a single chain three times  into that one hole. eureka indeed!

    Oh. I am but a wee babe where crochet is concerned. I can kind of chug around, but if I create anything, it is pure accident. Now these flowers are looking very tempting to my little wee hands. I wonder if I could do it, or would it just end up as a tangled mess! Suitably inspired, so just maybe.

    cheryl you can do it! just give it a go..your first one (and maybe the second) will be wrong, but i know you can get to step 3. then you get this confident burst surge..and during my second one i figured it out. i know you can!

    I still have trouble reading simple crochet patterns but if I stare at them long enough I can usually work them out. Bit like those magic eye pictures where what you're trying to see suddenly pops into focus.

    I'm always envious of people who can understand written instructions. I cannot, except for cook books. :) I'm definitely a hands-on learner. I would love to learn how to crochet a granny-square. Question about the toothbrush: Does it work like a needle, or a crochet hook?

    hi little ruby .. when i visit you in pennsylvania, we will sit down and do some handwork. i will teach you the grannysquare. and you can teach me how to make lye soap. the old fashioned way. :)
    as for the toothbrush rug...the toothbrush works more like a needle i would say. it is the same as hooking a rug, but much easier on the hands, and there is no looping around the toothbrush. you just put it in the hole and pull it thru. you gonna show us your rug?
